The Hawker Hurricane was the most widespread fighter and used by the British Royal Air Force at the beginning of World War II. He contributed decisively to the victory of the R.A.F. during the Battle of Britain but, during the war, he gradually succumbed to the far more modern Spitfire. However, the Hurricane has progressively changed its role, connoting itself with very specific versions and equipment. The Hurricane Mk. IIC was in fact equipped with a significant armament formed by 4 powerful 20 mm Hispano-Suiza guns mounted in the wings with almost 400 rounds. The adoption of the 20 mm guns, instead of the traditional 7.7 mm machine guns, made the Hurricane extremely effective in ground attack missions and close support. In addition, the Hurricane Mk. IIC was effectively used as a night fighter.
